Svaka ozbiljna lista najvećih finala Wimbledona ne može proći bez 2008. godine. Rafael Nadal prekinuo je petogodišnju vladavinu Rogera Federera u All England Clubu pobijedivši svog najvećeg rivala 9-7 u petom setu koji je završio u sumrak u finalu koje je već i po toj činjenici dobilo epitet epskoga. Nakon ukupno četiri sata i 48 minuta igre.

Španjolac je uzeo prva dva seta po 6-4, sljedeća dva izgubio u tie-breaku, ali nakon dva uzastopna poraza u finalima, baš od Federera, dočekao je svoju prvu vimbldonsku titulu od ukupno dvije (2010.).
Sada, 12 godina kasnije, drugi igrač svijeta u intervjuu za Movistar otkrio je podatak koji dosad baš nije bio poznat javnosti. Takoreći, pobijedio je Federera s – jednom nogom.
– Nikad nisam o tome govorio, ali od početka tog finala jedno mi je stopalo bilo pod blokadom – rekao je „kralj zemlje“.
– Nekoliko sam mečeva igrao s ozlijeđenom nogom i više nisam mogao bez blokade. Praktički nisam ni trenirao uoči finala. Kiša je još više zakomplicirala stvari jer injekcija je prestala djelovati i više nisam mogao stati na nogu.
Kiša je prvi put finale prekinula u trećem setu kod Federerova vodstva 5-4 na sat i pol, Nadal je u tie-breaku četvrtog imao 5-2 uz dva servisa, ali švicarski se majstor vratio nakon Španjolčeve dvostruke pogreške. Novi kišni prekid došao je u petom setu kod 2-2, taj je trajao pola sata, i kada su se mnogi pogledavali i pitali kada će i mrak konačno prekinuti meč, Nadal je kod 7-7 oduzeo Rogerov servis i koji trenutak kasnije postao i kralj trave.
